10 X-Men Fates Worse Than Death

9. Being Consumed By A Techno-Organic Virus

X-Men Brood
Marvel Comics

When Cyclops' son, Cable, was an infant, Apocalypse infected him with a Techno-Organic Virus. Once infected, the T-O converts all the cells into mechanical material. After all the host has been completely consumed, they will become an automaton. They will still be technically alive but their only purpose will be to infect other lifeforms with this terrifying disease.

Because Cable is telekinetic, he managed to slow down the metallic malady spreading through his body. But because there is no permanent cure, Cable has to use his psychic abilities every moment of every day to keep the virus at bay. As exhausting at this is, he has no choice since the alternative fate is much, much worse.

If Cable knew for a fact he was about to be fully consumed by the T-O, you'd assume he would put himself out of his misery. Sadly, that wouldn't work because the virus spreads on dead matter. As horrible as it may be, it's a safe bet that Cable will have to find a way to put up with his condition for the rest of his life.
