11 Comic Book Characters Who Killed Their Loved Ones

2. Sharon Carter

While she was admittedly under mind control at the time, it was still a massive shock to both readers and Agent 13 alike to see Sharon Carter 'kill' Steve Rogers.

This all took place in the aftermath of 2006's Civil War arc, with Captain America not only assassinated by his long-time colleague, but also by a Sharon who was at that point Steve's pregnant girlfriend. As alluded to, Carter didn't carry out this act as her own behest - for Doctor Faustus had brainwashed Sharon and forced her to deliver the shot that finally took down the Sentinel of Liberty.

As Faust utilised the ever-trigger happy Crossbones to fire sniper shots at Cap while he was in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, it was Sharon who was manipulated to get in close and unleash the fatal shot and finally kill off Captain America.

So often the case with comic books, death has a tendency not to stick. And that was indeed the case here, for it would later be explained that Agent 13's shot actually caused Steve's consciousness to phase in and out of space and time.

At the time it happened, though, this really was played up as the genuine death of Captain America. All of the major US news outlets reported this news, and Rogers would actually be 'dead' for two years before making his return in Captain America: Reborn.

In the fallout of Cap's demise, Sharon Carter spent the subsequent months having her mind again manipulated, and she'd even end up working for the Red Skull before eventually having a harsh dose of clarity and reality laid at her door upon realising her role in Rogers' death.
