11 More Insane Alternative Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe

1. Civil War Superman

Superman: The Dark Side
DC Comics

Much like Superman: Kal, the twist is more about time period than the location in this alternate Superman. In Superman: A Nation Divided, the ship landed in Kansas in the 19th Century shortly before the beginning of the American Civil War. Here, the young Kryptonian in question was raised as Atticus Kent, going on to sympathise with anti-slavery causes by the time he was an adult. When the war broke out Atticus eagerly joined the Union army, ready to fight for freedom and liberty.

At the battle of Vicksburg his superhuman powers become apparent as he was hit by a cannonball and was unfazed. Kent went on to win Vicksburg single-handedly and took Atlanta from the Confederates by himself. He was then considered the Union’s secret weapon by high command and was even sent to Washington D.C. to meet Abraham Lincoln.

Atticus went on to fight in Gettysburg and even stopped John Wilkes Booth when he was invited to attend the Theatre with President Lincoln, thereby preventing Abe's infamous assassination.

Eventually, Kent learnt his true origins when he was shown his ship. Atticus later rode off into the unknown American west to find his destiny using a horse he forged out of his ship, cementing his status as perhaps the most interesting alternate Superman out there.
