11 More Insane Alternative Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe
2. Frankenstein Superman
Possibly the most bizarre adaption of the Man of Steel, this particular story takes on a Wollstonecraft vibe and depicts Superman as the Monster of Shelley's classic.
This one shot, based in late 17th Century Switzerland, follows unorthodox scientist Vicktor Luthor who was obsessed with reviving the dead, - an obsession that was ruining his relationship with his fiancee, Elois Edge. After storming out from a party Luthor found the crashed Kryptonian ship with a dead infant inside. Luthor used the Kryptonian technology inside the ship to build a revival matrix and, after obtaining various body parts and putting them together, used the matrix to bring life to his creation.
Unfortunately, the resulting creature was chalk white and monstrous, although it did save Vicktor from a lab fire. Like the original Shelley tale, the creature flees the lab, albeit under slightly better circumstances, since Supes' monster is nowhere near as vengeful.
During this time the creature saved Elois Edge who, unlike other villagers it had met, did not appear frightened of his appearance. While dwelling in the forest the creature was found by the Kants, an old and caring couple who took him in, fed and taught him language and to how to be more human. They would go on to name him Klaus, considering him to be a son. A villager then later spotted Klaus on the farm and what he could do with his super human abilities. As is traditional in the Frankenstein tale a mob arrived at the Kant farm, burnt down their house, and caused Klaus’ adoptive parents to die.
