11 More Insane Alternative Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe

9. Nazi Superman

Superman: The Dark Side
DC Comics

It was almost guaranteed there’d be a version of Superman on the opposite end of the ideological political spectrum (e.g. Superman Red Son) seeing as he is portrayed as an all American hero. In this particular universe, the Axis Powers emerged victorious in the Second World War and went on to control the world. Think Man in the High Castle but with superheroes, and you're about halfway there.

In this version, Superman (who has no secret identity) is called Overman, a terrifying distortion of the Man of Steel who idolises Hitler and embodies the policies of the Nazi Party in full, which yes, makes our skin crawl too.

There are two depictions of the fascist Man of Steel. The first being the ideal Nazi - a blond pasty guy whose suit features a swastika instead of the original S.

The second Overman was slightly more in tune to the original Superman, having black hair with the Schutzstaffel emblem on his chest that looks a bit more like an S. This second Overman began to question his loyalty to the Axis powers when he discovered that the Nazi’s expanded their actions to North America.

Along with a Nazi Superman, this universe also featured a Nazi themed Justice League with Axis versions of other DC characters. Brunhilde (Wonder Woman) Leatherwing (Batman) and Underwaterman. All were equally just as tacky.
