11 More Insane Alternative Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe
6. Kryptonian Police Officer Superman
One of DC comics' ‘Just Imagine…’ series of alternate histories of famous characters, written by Stan Lee (so you know it's going to be good), this reimagining follows Salden, a police officer in Krypton hunting down the criminal Gundor Gorrok who killed his wife.
Cornering Gorrok in a teleportation lab, the two were accidentally sent on a one way trip to Earth. The two arrived and discovered they had developed immense power from the planet's lower gravity. With this power, Gundor Gorrok became a criminal while Salden instead simply wished to go home.
With Earth’s primitive technology Salden knew he'd be stuck on this planet and concluded its technology and space programs’ were hindered by horrible factors of the world such as war, crime and poverty, so he decided to use his new gifts to aid the humans and stop these tragedies from slowing Earth’s development. Despite being one of the weakest of the Kryptonian Police Force, Salden became a superhero and like the traditional Man of Steel wore a red and blue suit that didn't feature any symbols on his chest.
Because of Salden’s actions, he was quickly approached by Lois Lane, a publicist in this universe. Lane gave him the name Superman to help with branding and Salden took the human name Clark Kent as an alias.
With Salden becoming a fully fledged superhero, Gundor Gorrok decided to become a supervillain and be Salden's arch-nemesis once again. Don't these things have a funny way of working themselves out?
