So what if Kal-El got ran over by a drunk driver as a baby as he landed in Kansas? What if he grew up to be an arrogant sporting legend? If you're the sort who stays awake all night contemplating such realities, then ‘Superman, inc’ is definitely your series.
Instead of being found by the Kents the young Kryptonian was picked up by social services and adopted by the Sundermans, naming him Dale. Dale grew up blocking out the memories of his powers coming to light and went on to become a sports goliath, playing basketball, baseball and American football, winning countless medals and awards. His athletic success even earned him the nickname (shock!) Superman.
Dale uses his success to build his own corporation and in a moment of hubris, he created a Superman cartoon. The animated series that followed the adventures of the Superhero with all the classic powers of the Man of Steel, the same ones Dale was still unconsciously suppressing.
Dale's powers finally manifested when he was almost assassinated - a contract ordered by his corporate rival Lex Luthor - but of course with this being Superman the bullets bounced right off, in full view of an adoring public no less. After his powers came to light, which was still a shock to the sportsman, public opinion turned against him as they felt he was cheating with these super human abilities. Sadly in this universe Dale did not have the option to air his grievances on a talk show.
