Marvel Legacy may not have hit the ground running in quite the way Marvel would've hoped, but the one-off special by Jason Aaron, Esad Ribic and others was certainly enjoyable. One of its biggest achievements was setting up the future of the Marvel Universe in a seamless and intriguing way, establishing a wider mystery that, while not the crux of the latest Avengers book, is bound to play into it in some way.

Releasing this week, Avengers: No Surrender is Marvel's first big volley of the year. Written by Mark Waid, Al Ewing and Jim Zub, No Surrender promises big things for the most recent incarnation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, promising deaths, reveals and plenty more to kickstart the year right. Marvel are certainly hyping up the book (reverting to type by spoiling one of its deaths the other month), but it's more than deserving of the attention, with the main draw of the book coming from Voyager, the mysterious new Avenger that - as we saw in Legacy - has somehow managed to place themselves in classic Marvel continuity.

It's set to be a long read, totalling in around sixteen issues, but it's exciting to see all these writers, artists and heroes come together, particularly when most Avengers books have been created in the Bendis mould following the fallout of Avengers: Disassembled.
