12 Most Iconic Battles In Comics

2. Hulk vs. The Wolverine

From: The Incredible Hulk #181

Hulk and Wolverine have locked horns on countless occasions over the past 40 years, and while some readers may likely deem their confrontation in Peter David/Todd McFarlane€™s Incredible Hulk #340 as the best, for pure iconography, there€™'s no beating the first time they fought in Incredible Hulk #181. This battle, of course, also marked the very first appearance of Wolverine, arguably the most famous superhero introduced during the Bronze Age of comics.

In this issue, the mysterious Wolverine ambushes the Hulk as the green-skinned behemoth is fighting the Wendigo. After unsuccessfully trying to pierce the Hulk'€™s skin with his adamantium claws, Wolverine turns his attention to the Wendigo, confusing the Hulk. The duo beat on each other two more times before the issue is finished, with Wolverine eventually running off (where he would later play a key role in the rebooting of the X-Men franchise with Giant Size X-Men #1).

A Hulk vs. Wolverine film has been a mainstay in the Hollywood rumor mill for years, but even without a movie, it is always considered a special event when these two get together in the comics.
