Now don't yell at me, but this one's a little bit of a stretch. I don't need to tell you what Guillermo del Toro's done, do I? The Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim director should be famous enough by now that the mere utterance of his name is enough to make all good nerds stop and take notice. When he's not making Spanish dark fantasy movies, del Toro can usually be found creating big-budget comic book worlds that are often actually taken from the pages of funnybooks themselves, like Blade II and the Hellboy movies, which del Toro co-writes with the red devil's creator himself, Mike Mignola. He's also responsible for some comics himself in the form of The Strain, an adaptation of the novel written by Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan. The series is written by David Lapham and illustrated by Mike Huddleston, but that's not the adaptation most people are getting excited about as a first season of a The Strain TV show is about to air on FX in July. Funnily enough, the story was originally pitched as a series but rejected and then turned into a novel...which was then turned into a television series directed by del Toro. Well, that's one way of going about it.
