Spunk is another one of those antiquated, but hilarious words that definitely doesn't have the same meaning now as it used to in the days most of these comics were published. Most of the time the phrase was used harmlessly, inferring that the character in question had pluck, or moxy or other things that people in Bugsy Malone say, and noone else in the entire world.
