The island of Krakoa should ring a bell for old and new school X-Men fans. Not only did it capture the original team - which in turn helped lead into Giant Sized X-Men #1- it also played a major part in the Deadly Genesis story back in 2006.

Much like how Hickman altered Moira X, he's also changed up the island of Krakoa somewhat and made the once villainous island into not only an ally, but a home for mutant-kind. This isn't the first time that the idea of a nation for all mutants has been used, but this time it actually looks like it might be a success.

However, Krakoa is far more than just a base of operations for mutants. It's now also a resource for the Flowers of Krakoa that can help humans and mutants. For humans, the flowers can be turned into drugs that extend their life by five years, can stop human diseases of the mind and can be used as an adaptive antibiotic.

For mutants, these flowers are used for completely different things. One of them opens a gateway that only mutants can go through, another grows into an area that Krakoa doesn't know anything about, and the last flower turns into a self-sustaining habitat.

Although they're brought up in House of X #1, these flowers have a huge part to play later on in the story.
