Luthor's redemption arc doesn't last all that long in DCeased, as almost immediately after joining forces with the heroic survivors, Luthor is then cut in half by a zombified Martian Manhunter, providing us the second most gruesome death in the entire series - which is really saying something, given how brutal the injury is.

Admittedly, the fact it happens so soon after Luthor is recruited is a good portion of what makes it so shocking, as it subverts your expectation of when he might die - as generally you'd assume that such a major character would stick around for longer than a couple of pages before being hideously eviscerated.

It's no tragic sacrifice to save the heroes he once fought against, sure, but Luthor's gory demise is the kind of mindless violence that makes DCeased so wonderfully unpredictable.
