5. Winter Soldier

Even before he became the Winter Soldier, James "Bucky" Barnes had a reputation for being a proficient killer. In fact, his title as "Captain America's sidekick" was devised by the US government to cover up the fact he was a covert assassin.

But when he was blown up in and rebuilt as the brainwashed hitman for the Russians called Winter Soldier, he was made even deadlier. For decades, his benefactors had him placed in cryostats and released him every few years to assassinate a target. He has killed many significant people in this new role including Wolverine's wife, Itsu, and the Red Skull.

When he was gravely wounded during the Fear Itself saga, Nick Fury kept him alive with the Infinity Formula. Not only did this concoction heal all his wounds, it enhanced him to physical perfection. Now equipped with a mild healing factor, an absurd tolerance to heat, cold, and pain, and the speed of a car, the Winter Soldier is more dangerous than ever.
