Some comic book fans weren't that happy when Norman Osborn (a.k.a. Green Goblin) made the leap from Spider-Man to Avengers villain, but he quickly made an impact as the thoroughly evil Iron Patriot. As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D./H.A.M.M.E.R., Osborn assembled a team of Dark Avengers consisting of names like Bullseye, Venom, and Daken to create a twisted version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Despite having a tight grip on the Marvel Universe for a time, it was ultimately Osborn's insanity which led to his downfall. That was emphasised by the fact that he was wearing make-up beneath his helmet to appear as the Green Goblin, but watching him go from Peter Parker's main tormenter to leader of the Thunderbolts and ultimately one of The Avengers' greatest foes was a fascinating period in his history.
