The Hulk was actually the first villain The Avengers ever faced, though both sides were manipulated into fighting by the trickster Loki. Of course, while that may have been the reason why they clashed during their first encounter, Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Jade Giant have since come to blows on more than one occasion, though the most notable has to be during the World War Hulk storyline. After being sent into space by a secret team of Avengers, a vengeful Hulk returned to Earth and took each and every one of them out before being defeated by The Sentry.
