Despite being portrayed more as a Justice League villain in recent years, Superman has clashed with this iconic DC Comics character many times in the past. Darkseid's hatred for the Earth-1 Superman is in fact so great that he's travelled to countless dimensions to murder their versions of the Man of Steel, but has yet to succeed in destroying the one he hates more than any other; there's a lot of animosity between these two! The ruler of Apokolips even enslaved Supergirl in one story (making this rivalry even more personal), but Superman has actually managed to defeat him on a few occasions. However, with Darkseid receiving a major upgrade in "The New 52" continuity, he's now significantly more powerful than the Man of Steel, so the next time these two come to blows may not end up going too well for Earth's greatest superhero.
