15 Most Controversial DC Retcons Of All Time

6. Barbara Gordon Walks Again

Barbara Gordon was by far the most beloved and iconic Batgirl thanks to the Adam West TV show. Unfortunately, Barbara has not always been the most well treated character in the Bat-Family, as Alan Moore€™s 1988 Batman: The Killing Joke left the character wheelchair bound at the hands of the Joker. Many critics have complained over the years that Moore€™s story is incredibly sexist: Barbra€™s character was literally cannon fodder for that story. She had no agency within the tale; she was there as a prop to be used, maimed and discarded. However, thanks to the work of Gail Simone and a handful of other talented writers, Barbara took on a new super identity as Oracle. While remaining in the wheelchair, she served as the information hub for the heroes of the DCU. She became one of only disabled heroes in DC€™s line, and then The New 52 came along and put her back in the suit. Although its wonderful to see Babs running around in the cape and cowl again, DC has lost a character that has meant a lot to many. Oracle proved that physical limitations don€™t have to limit a person€™s capacity for heroism.

Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
