15 Most Controversial DC Retcons Of All Time

1. Convergence

Convergence is the newest of the what-seems-like countless DC reboots. Finishing up only in May 2015, the end of Convergence caused quite the stir among DC fans, as it was essentially a retcon of the Crisis On Infinite Earths retcon. Penned by comics newcomer, Jeff King, Convergence told the story of how a cosmic version of Brainiac abducted various cities from different doomed timelines throughout the history of the DC universe and kept them on a sentient planet called Telos (don't ask). At the end of the story, Brainiac send Pre-Crisis Barry Allan, Pre-Crisis Supergirl, Hal Jordan Parallax and Pre-Flashpoint Superman back in time to undo the collapse of the multiverse during Crisis On Infinite Earths. The problem is that no one is quite sure how this relates to the previous retcons and reboots that happened in-between Crisis On Infinite Earths and Convergence, leaving many fans scratching their heads about the current history of the DC multiverse. It seems that DC€™s editorial team used this half-baked story to retcon the original retcon in order that they can officially say that everything counts as continuity, including each of the aforementioned retcons. Although this event was a flop from the beginning, Convergence ushered in the current state of the DC universe, where diversity is representation and genre are emphasized and where story trumps continuity.

Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
