15 Most Controversial DC Retcons Of All Time

8. Doctor Hurt As Thomas Wayne

Grant Morrison€™s run on Batman will go down as one of the greatest runs in the character€™s history; however, it is not without controversy. At the end of Batman: RIP, the main villain Dr Hurt states that he€™s Thomas Wayne, claiming that he somehow survived his murder by Joe Chill. Doctor Hurt shows up through much of Morrison€™s run on Batman, and his identity is never truly revealed. Sometimes he€™s Thomas Wayne, other times he€™s a distant relative of Bruce Wayne. Hell €“ there are even implications that he€™s the devil incarnate. Morrison has stated that he intentionally left the character€™s true identity a mystery, allowing the readers to decide for themselves. Needless to say, if Doctor Hurt is Thomas Wayne, then this would be a major change in the Batman mythos, as it strikes to the very heart of why Bruce Wayne became Batman. Batman has always been driven by the tragic murder of his parent. If this were to be rewritten, Batman thereby suffers an existential identity crisis.

Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
