2. Everything About The Killing Joke

Superhero books have been struggling against the notion that they're only for children since pretty much the beginning of sequential art. Batman: Odyssey isn't really for anyone. The Killing Joke is sort of the same, in that Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's classic graphic novel is misanthropic on a huge scale.

It's the book where Batman, a character for children, has to deal with the aftermath of his arch nemesis crippling a teenage girl, before raping her as she lies bleeding on her carpet, then taking photos, and showing them to the girl's dad. The whole point of the story is for The Joker to prove even Commissioner Gordon can go insane from one really bad day.

Since that's what happened to The Joker, apparently. The story also features gross caricatures of dwarves and people with developmental disorders are horrifying monsters who work for The Joker. Ableism, sexual violence, poor treatment of mental health issues, this Batman comic book really does have it all!
