8. The Significant Others (Who Have Been Dragged Along)
A bit like the parents, these people dont particularly want to be there. They have agreed to accompany their boyfriend or girlfriend to the convention, and they will be trying their hardest to look like they are enjoying themselves. They may have a passing interest in comics (probably because they have been forced to go to the cinema), but they are nowhere near as into it as they are portraying. Comic-Con is a time when your inner geek can thrive. It doesnt matter how reserved you are normally, you can let yourself go and be your inner comic book enthusiast. If you have dragged your girlfriend or boyfriend with you, they may be somewhat surprised by how passionate you can be. They may be impatient while you look for a specific issue, or they may give you a disapproving glare as you contemplate buying some obscure collectible figurine for obscene amounts of money. They dont understand your fascination and pleasure at being at Comic-Con, but they are trying to understand this side of you. Whatever happens, make sure that you show your appreciation for coming with you...to an outsider Comic-Con must look like a bizarre and strange place.
