For a very long time, The Rhino was little more than a dumb brute who Spider-Man could easily fool into trapping himself by jumping out of the way at the last minute to trap his horn in a wall. However, there have been a handful of very touching stories which have shown a drastically different side to this Russian villain and developed his personality. At one point, he gave up his suit and went on the straight and narrow. When a vicious new Rhino emerged on the scene though, his wife was caught in the crossfire, and Aleksei Sytsevich held Spider-Man responsible for her demise. He got his revenge on the hero by drowning Silver Sable (and seemingly himself) during a recent team-up with the Sinister Six.
