How did Wonder Woman get her name? Well, it was a lucky coincidence really. Originally, creator William Marston named her Suprema, The Wonder Woman. That first part was quickly dropped however (which was apparently because it sounded too similar to Superman), and she was instead named Wonder Woman by DC Comics editors of the time. It's an odd decision in some ways, because it's a bit like if the first pitch for Superman was "Superman, The Man of Steel" and he was then named just The Man of Steel. Regardless, it definitely worked out for the best, especially as Suprema would have no doubt seen Diana become too closely associated with Superman, leaving her somewhat in his shadow.
