Superman's definitive love interest is Lois Lane, but before he met the intrepid Daily Planet reporter, there was another woman in the Man of Steel's life. That was his college sweetheart, a wheelchair bound beauty named Lori Lemaris. She was introduced in 1959, and Clark even proposed marriage to her at one point. However, he soon discovered that the reason she always had to return home by 8pm was to soak in a tank of water (really), and that under the blanket she always wore was a the bottom half of a mermaid.
