17. His Sidekick Was A Starfish

There was a period in DC Comics history where pretty much every superhero was saddled with a sidekick in a bid to recapture the magic found with Batman and Robin. In Hal Jordan's case, he first tried to mentor a young hero with the ability to travel along radio waves, but when that didn't work out he decided to pair up with an alien starfish. Itty sat on Green Lantern's shoulder through many of his adventures, and Hal would often have one sided conversations with his silent sidekick. Things took a sad turn when Itty died - much to the relief of comic fans - though you can't keep a good starfish down and he later returned.
