23 Problems Only Comic Book Readers Will Understand
15. Far Too Many Adverts
Comic books these days are completely dominated by adverts. Every other page seems to be a full page spread of an advertisement for a different title - sometimes even a title from a different company or for a computer game - and the pages are often filled with leaflets and vouchers. This really spoils the comic reading experience and it really should be reduced.
14. Angry Online Debaters
The internet is generally teaming with angry people who yearn to comment negatively - often to completely unnecessary extents - about the first thing they even slightly disagree with. As writers, we know all too well that if we make one completely innocent (and often completely factual) remark about a film, sport or television show, an angry, faceless chap some 5000 miles away will happily insult your mother for no other reason than to gain a moment of satisfaction or what they perceive as power. This is, by far, most severe in the online comic book community. Tell someone their favourite football team are terrible and they'll react angrily. Tell someone their favourite comic book character isn't all that and they'll immediately try to set fire to your face through their computer screen with their thoughts. Comic book readers are a passionate bunch and trying to debate rationally online with a lot of them is a completely futile endeavour.
13. Lack Of A High Street Comic Presence
Although the internet has made buying comics a lot easier in modern times, there's nothing quite like the feeling of getting your hands on a comic prior to purchasing it and perusing the endless shelves of colourful, weird and wonderful titles in a comic book shop. Sadly, comic book readers know all too well that this is easier said than done, as very few small towns have comic book stores in them. If you live in a big city, there'll often be four or five within walking distance but, if you don't, you will often have to drive forty or fifty miles for the privilege.
