1. Damian Wayne
Grant Morrison ended his seven year Batman run in a big way in 2013 by killing off the character he'd introduced as a (seeming) mainstay into the Batman mythos, Bruce's only biological son, Damian. Damian died in the pages of Batman Incorporated #8, the cover of which referenced the iconic Alex Ross cover to Batman RIP with Robin instead of Batman, as he battled his mother's champion, the Abomination, in a fight to the death. It was a death worthy of the legend Damian had become throwing all of his training against his monstrously mutated brother, Talia's Leviathan minions fired bullets and arrows at him as he fought, eventually slowing him down enough to allow Abomination to stab Damian to death. The print issue sold out everywhere and made international news headlines as Robin was declared dead (not for the first time either). Fans mourned the loss of a character they'd come to know over the years having watched him change from bratty sociopath in Batman and Son, to a key component of the Bat family, the fifth Robin, and an exciting choice for the future Batman. DC also ran a series of Requiem issues commemorating the passing of the character across all Bat-titles for a month. So was that the end of Damian Wayne? His body wasn't even cold as Batman Incorporated was finishing up its final issues, that DC announced a Damian: Son of Batman mini-series that winter with artist Andy Kubert writing and drawing it! Plus if DC can make a big deal out of the death of Jason Todd (the second Robin) in the Death in the Family arc from the '80s and then bring the character back to life in a bizarre confluence of events in the mid '00s, anything can happen. After all, this is a world where Lazarus Pits exist and Damian's grand-dad is hundreds of years old! * Those are the notable superhero deaths from the last year.
