5 Reasons Death Of Wolverine Is Just A Shameless Marketing Ploy

1. € And If He Does, Will He Stay Dead?

If there is one thing that every comic book reader understands with the death of popular characters is that it€™ll never stick because Marvel makes far too much money out of ongoing sales. What they€™re actually looking for is to advertise a new jumping on point for new readers, and there€™s only so many Wolverine #1€™s they can come up with. Volume 6 has only just managed to get into double figures €“ but you have to remember that the fifth volume ended after only a meagre 13 issues before Marvel milked another #1 issue out of the character. As we€™ve pointed out before, the X-Men always seem to come back from a death (unless they€™re in the Ultimate Universe where several of them are permanently dead €“ including Wolverine already). Furthermore Wolverine is in an insane number of comic lines, including Wolverine and the X-Men, Savage Wolverine, not to mention his self-titled series and recently was in Wolverine: Max which wrapped in March. Marvel makes far too much money out of the character. When DC killed off Superman they knew they were bringing him back and he was resurrected only eight months later with his series continuing in the meanwhile €“ expect the same from Marvel. Don€™t even expect it to last as long as Batman €“ who was killed off in January 2009 and was already back in February 2010. Wolverine might die€ but it€™ll be brief. Maybe he€™ll even come back with Jean Grey. But what do you think? Is this just a big bit of unscrupulous marketing by Marvel, or are you actually looking forward to it because you€™re burned out from Wolverine appearing in too many lines and you€™d like a six month break? Thoughts and opinions below!
