5 Reasons 'Superior Spider-Man' Is Spidey's Best Story In Years

1. Peter Will Return... One Day

Superior-Spider-Man_9_peter_parker_is_the_amazing_spider-manIt's perhaps not entirely fair to have this as the number one reason, but it's probably the one that will win over most detractors of the series. 'Superior Spider-Man' has represented the biggest event to ever hit Peter Parker's life, and although Marvel and the book's contributors are understandably coy about his future, Peter Parker will return. That shouldn't make any of Otto's activities as Spider-Man any less effective, though; every single thing he does right now is sure to have a monumental effect on Peter's life and behaviour once he gets his body back. Do not allow yourself to think these stories don't matter. It's unrealistic to expect that Marvel's flagship hero would go through a change like this and for it to be permanent, however, and we know that Peter will eventually be Spider-Man once again. Given the web-slinger's place as Marvel's most popular hero among kids this deep and dark turn could never be made lasting enough for Otto to truly become the face of Spider-Man. So if these stories do matter, but they aren't permanent; what does that mean? Well it means that we can all enjoy this shift from the norm all the more. In the first eleven issues there have been any number of avenues opened for Peter's eventual return. From Carlie Cooper's suspicions to Otto's own disenchantment with living Parker's life alongside Spider-Man's there are a ton of possibilities for how Marvel and Dan Slott can return the old status quo. In the meantime we have a Spider-Man unlike any we've had before; he's ruthless, pompous and technically a better hero than ever (for now). Peter Parker will always be Spider-Man, and technically he still is now. One day Peter will return and the Spider-Man we've all grown up with will come along with him. We all know what the destination is, so why not enjoy switching off the SatNav and taking the battered dirt road for a little while instead of following that simple old highway? We'll find our way back there, but for now let's just enjoy a superior ride! Are you enjoying Superior Spider-Man as much as we are? Or have you been away from the series since Amazing ended?
