5 Things The 90's Taught Us About Comics

2. Change Is Good, Until It Isn€™t

When the New 52 was released there was a buzz that comics haven€™t had in years - mainstream media was taking notice, old readers where coming back and old readers had something new to look forward to. Sales skyrocketed at first, but every month after numbers were falling to the point that 14 months in some titles are finally leveling off while others are still tanking, unless your book rhymes with €œAtman€. And while the numbers should be enough to tell the story, a recent hilarious Facebook poll on the DC page showed that the fans want the old DC Universe back. Looking back in time to 1996 brings us the Heroes Reborn storyline: four of Marvel€™s most iconic books were handed over to the two guys that had jumped ship just a few years before - Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld took a pair of books each and rebooted the characters. Most fans were happy, but I remember being furstrated because Robby killed the best Captain America run ever (Waid/Garney - and I would challenge anyone to top that) - I bought a few of the first issues but didn€™t come back for seconds. Bucky is a GIRL? I€™m out. Comic readers are fickle at times. We want change until nostalgia kicks in and we want our classics back, and I for one hope the DC Universe of old returns.
