50 Reasons Why Superman is The Greatest Superhero Ever
30. He Believes In Humanity
He believes we're capable of good in spite of all the misery we cause one another. In spite of the horrors we can inflict on one another, in spite of the pain we give each other and the jealousy, and envy, and corruption, Superman sleeps easy at night because he knows deep down that when the chips are down we're capable of amazing things. 9/11 proved Superman's theory once and for all. While the event was filled with human suffering it was also filled with amazing stories of sacrifice, and charity, and friendship, and love, and herosim, and courage in the face of pure evil. Do your research and you'll find that Superman is not naive, he just hasn't given up on us long after we've given up on ourselves.
29. He Represents Humanity
Superman is a force that can not be broken. When facing down pure evil, he knows he has the strength to stare it down and beat it. Superman is the power within all of us to preserve life, to cherish it, and to ensure its safety. "Superman Returns" showed marvelously that Superman cherishes life above all in the finale where he flies along Metropolis preventing major disasters before battling Lex Luthor.28. He Survived His Electric Blue Phase
DC had it in their heads that Superman needed some sort of reboot, so Superman was given a highly hyped new costume and brand new powers. Though the costume was cool, it just wasn't fit for Superman who had the abilities to tinker with electric items and use electric powers while being vulnerable when in Clark Kent's form. The storyline eventually took a nose dive in to pure camp, but Superman returned to his pure form and more powerful than ever.
27. He's a Household Name
Everyone knows who Superman is. Everyone and their mother knows who he is. Everyone's mother's mother knows who he is. Put a towel or sheet around your neck and you could be pretending to be Superman. He's more well known that most fictional characters around the world and his name has become so multi-faceted, it can be used to describe anyone strong or powerful.26. He's Not Invincible
Often I read from many writers "Waaah! Superman is hard to write because he's invincible and a deus ex machina! Waah!" Uh no Superman is not invincible. Superman is vulnerable to Kryptonite in every shape and form, he's vulnerable to pure magic which makes him an easy opponent against someone like Dr. Fate or Zatanna, he needs the sun's yellow rays to power him, so if he's draped in eternal darkness or red sun rays his power diminishes, and he's vulnerable to the various forms of kryptonite which have varied results when exposed to Kal-El. It's not rocket science, people. Superman is hardly invincible.
