6 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (13 February)

In comics news this week, Mark Doyle has been appointed the new Batman Group Editor at DC Comics, replacing Mike Marts. Marts has gone to work for Marvel as a result of DC's announcement that they will be moving its New York office to Burbank, California in 2015. Doyle is currently a Vertigo editor who was most responsible for bringing Scott Snyder into DC after editing his American Vampire series, and also edits Snyder's other Vertigo series, The Wake. Though Doyle is excited about the promotion, he will only be the editor for a year as he will not be moving to California in 2015. Snyder is also pleased with the appointment, tweeting that "Gotham couldn't be in better hands for Batman's 75th", referring to 2014 being Batman's 75th anniversary since he first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Valiant are doing a similar scheme to Marvel's All-New Marvel NOW! and are releasing a whole new wave of #1s called Valiant First. Beginning in May running through to September, the 6 new titles will be: Rai #1 by Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain; Armor Hunters #1 by Robert Venditti and Doug Braithwaite; Armor Hunters: Bloodshot #1 by Joe Harris and Trevor Hairsine; Armor Hunters: Harbinger #1 by Joshua Dysart and Robert Gill; The Delinquents #1 by Fred Van Lente, James Asmus and Kano; and The Death Defying Dr Mirage #1 by Jen Van Meter and Roberto de la Torre. More casting news was announced this week as Fox's new Batman-themed TV series, Gotham, added more characters to the roster: joining Ben McKenzie as a young Jim Gordon, will be Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Zabyrna Guevara as Captain Essen (Gordon's boss), Donal Logue as Bullock, and Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Gordon's future wife. Alfred's character looks to be similar to the Batman Earth One version as he's going to be written as a former SAS marine while Penguin will be shown in the early days of his criminal career as a low-level goon, long before he becomes one of Gotham's most powerful and notorious crime-bosses. The young Bruce Wayne has yet to be cast but he's expected to appear in the series. And now, on to the best comics of the week!
