6 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (15 January)

Your weekly guide to those animated funnybooks...

Comics You Must Read By far the biggest news story this week was the return of Peter Park... nope, it was Doop getting his own series! Yup, the Slimer-esque X-Man who most recently appeared in Jason Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men series as a background gag, has gotten so popular that he's now getting his own five issue limited series! Doop's creators, Peter Milligan and Mike Allred will be writing and drawing the covers while David Lafuente will be the interior artist. All-New Doop #1 is out this April. But yes, of course the big news was that Peter Parker was returning to the Marvel Universe this Spring with All-New Amazing Spider-Man #1! The classic flagship Marvel character was killed off before Marvel NOW! first launched and his nemesis, Doc Ock, took over his body to become the Superior Spider-Man. Superior has been controversial with fans upset at the change in the status quo, especially as under Ock Spidey has had no compunction with killing, though for many readers it's been hugely enjoyable as a fresh, original storyline for this 50 year old character. Here's hoping Otto isn't killed off as I feel we've all gotten to know him quite well in the year and a half we've been reading him €“ but even if he is, hell, Peter came back, why not Otto? Lots of exciting news came out of the recent Image Expo with Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham, the team behind Batman Incorporated, reuniting to tell a horror story unlike any other in Nameless, out later this year, while Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips signed a 5 year deal allowing them total freedom and ownership of everything they produce for the company. Meanwhile at DC, John Layman has left Batman Eternal, the forthcoming weekly Batman comic, to focus on his Image series, Chew, more completely. Layman was quick to point out that there was nothing scandalous over his departure and that he intends to one day return to Gotham but right now he wants to make sure he gives everything he's got to his and Rob Guillory's creator owned series. Those are the comics news stories, let's check out the best comics of the week!
