6 Awesome Comics You Must Read This Week (2 October)

6. All New X-Men #17 (Battle Of The Atom #6) By Brian Michael Bendis And Stuart Immonen (Marvel)

Marvel All New X Men Issue 17 I've been very hot and cold with Battle of the Atom since it started a couple of days ago (just kidding, I know it's been a month but they're releasing them so damn fast!) but the last issue gave the story a much-needed shot in the arm and this sixth issue is pretty good as a result. I won't go into the overly complex time-travel plot (a Bendis specialty) especially as I don't have a chart to show you but suffice it to say past, present and future X-Men meet and shenanigans ensue - entertaining shenanigans! Magik, classic Beast and classic Ice-Man head into the future and see... a pretty nice place. Sure there are Sentinels around but they elected a mutant as President! Unfortunately it ended badly... Stuart Immonen's art is absolutely fantastic and it's his treatment of Bendis' future storyline that makes this a standout issue, plus I actually liked this futuristic storyline compared to Bendis' other futuristic storyline in Age of Ultron. Also, things happen that we haven't seen before, interesting things, as opposed to the boring "let's chase a couple of kids" story that comprised the first act of this event. It wouldn't be a Bendis comic without even more time-travel and the already swollen cast of the series manages to get even bigger, but the story is moving swiftly and it's actually engaging now. A nice turn-around for Battle of the Atom and a strong sixth issue in the event.
