3. Kevin Keller (Archie)

Ah, Kevin. He's not magical, and he doesn't have superpowers, (unless you count being able to eat as many burgers as Jughead), but he's a hero all the same. He's an affable guy with a blonde quiff, and is partial to wearing t-shirts as bright as parrot puke when he's not in his army uniform. He just also happens to be gay. The introduction of Kevin into a 'family friendly' comic like
Archie was a big leap forward, because simply put, sometimes gay teens don't have families that are very friendly towards their outing, or friends that they can count on as a support network. With the alarming rates of gay teen suicide and depression being constantly highlighted in the news, it's great to see
Glee, the U.K.'s
Beautiful People and now
Archie showing teens and adults accepting their peers regardless of their sexual orientation. Riverdale is still the same safe place for adolescents on the cusp of adulthood to hang out, only now, to quote
Archie co-CEO Jon Goldwater, it's more 'current and inclusive'. And that's awesome.
