6 Drastic Comic Book Changes That Won't Stick
With so many changes, it's only a matter of time before things get back to normal.
To keep their titles fresh and interesting, comic book publishers are constantly looking for ways to shake things up. And that goes double for the Big Two; Marvel and DC. While sometimes it's enough to simply introduce a new writer or artist to a book, more often than not they'll be inclined to come up with more drastic changes. From altered powers and new costumes all the way up to character deaths, publishers are constantly on the lookout for ways to put a new spin on old characters. Four years after completely rebooting their entire line, DC are once again preparing drastic changes to almost every team and character, introducing twenty-five new titles over the next few months. The big shake up comes out of their Convergence story-line, in which characters from parallel universe collide on an artificial planet with dramatic results. Meanwhile, Marvel are also planning a line-wide reboot following Secret Wars, where... umm... characters from parallel universe collide on an artificial planet with dramatic results. And people say the Big Two are all out of ideas. But, because the status quo is always king, many of these changes don't lat long enough to even get a mention in a character's Wikipedia page, much less be remembered by the casual reader. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it,' holds true for comic books more than almost anything else, and the vast majority of heroes have had their basic formula fixed for several decades by now. We list some of the most dramatic changes in comics books, and predict when the status quo will be restored. SPOILER ALERT: Because many of the events described in this article are recent changes, you should only read if you're up to date with Thor, Action Comics, Superman, and Batman. Especially Batman.
