I know, get in line for this guy. After his memorable post-credits cameo in the Avengers, Thanos appears to be a shoe-in as a future villain in that series, and rightly so. Thanos is one of the greatest villains Marvel has to offer. Additionally, hes rumored to have a role in this summers Guardians movie, though the two main villains that have officially been announced are Ronan the Accuser and The Collector. So while it looks like Marvel might be saving the bulk of Thanoss face time for an Avengers sequel, its not unreasonable to build a movie around the Mad Titan fighting the Guardians. Theres a lot of history there. His adopted daughter is Gamora, creating natural family friction there. He kills the family of a man named Arthur Douglas who goes on to become Drax the Destroyer a character whose sole purpose is to cruch Thanos (interesting fact: Thanos and Drax both made their first appearance in Iron Man #55, created by Mike Friedrich and Jim Starlin). In terms of his role in the current Guardians comics, Thanos is the final villain the team faces during the Dan Abnett/Andy Lanning run (killing Phyla-Vell in the process). He shows up again in the Brian Michael Bendis-penned series, appearing during the run-up to the Infinity miniseries. So in addition to the history he has with these characters prior to them becoming Guardians of the Galaxy, theres a foundation from those specific series to build a great movie franchise around.
