7 Best Comics Series For Newcomers

7. Adventure Time

Frederator StudiosFrederator StudiosPendelton Ward's massively successful cartoon series embodied everything that people loved about comics, brightly coloured adventures in highly imaginative and unique worlds. In 2011 the comic book series was commissioned, and the series has been a hit with comic book lovers ever since. The cutesy characters and hilariously trippy story lines make each issue a delight to behold, featuring clever dialogue that appeals just as much to adults as to the kids its aimed at. While this level of underlying subtext is definitely present in the show, it is far more prominent in each issue of the comic adaptation - making it essential for older fans. As fans of the show will know, its bite-sized episodes often mean that each story is contained to fifteen minute chunks - the comic series, however is completely different. Story lines are far more fleshed out, meaning that certain story arks take place over ten issues, giving fans of the series a much more in depth look into the loveable land of Ooo. Wish you knew more about The Ice King? The comics will take such beloved characters and give you a greater insight into their motivations and back stories. To the uninitiated, this may sound a bit confusing, but the beauty of the comics is that they are incredibly accessible. While hardcore fans of the show will get a bit more out of each issue than your average Joe, each comic is enjoyable as a stand alone issue - making it perfect for readers to jump in at any given time. While this is a series that certainly won't appeal to everyone, its well written and grin inducingly fun. If you're after something light hearted take a plunge into the land of Ooo with KaBOOM!'s Adventure Time.
