7 Best Comics Series For Newcomers

6. Origin II

Wolverine Origin IIWolverine Origin IIWolverine is pretty much an evergreen comic book character. He's iconic and incredibly well known, yet still surrounded with enough mystery to keep readers and writers constantly coming back to him. The reason for this? Wolverine's ageless nature makes his past a constant source of intrigue, and while touched upon in a few series, there is still much that remains unknown about Logan's early days. The first time his past was truly explored was in the brilliant Origin mini-series in 2000. After the success of the first X-Men film it was decided that if a comic series didn't address his past, the films would - and Marvel sure as hell wasn't going to let that happen. Set in 19th century Canada, the original told how Wolverine - originally James Howlett, came to be the fearsome mutant he is known as today. While a knowledge of the original series will add an extra layer of enjoyment, it is in no way essential in order to understand or enjoy Origin II. After the tragic events of the original series, Wolverine has banished himself to the wild, and come to live amongst a pack of wolves. The series tells of his constant struggle to relate to humans and re-integrate into an increasingly unfamiliar society as America approaches the 20th century. The great art and minimal story-telling help you get into Wolverine's head, and understand the constant battle between beast and man that rages within him. If you're looking for an enjoyable and action packed series with a familiar character you can do much worse than this gripping mini series. Whether you're a die hard fan or just think Wolverine's a bit of a badass, this is a series that's well worth checking out.
