3. The Others Are A Breath Of Fresh Air
Before the Justice League, there was the Others. Arthur's first rag-tag super-team were forced to reunite in the pages of Aquaman after his arch-foe, Black Manta, began to hunt them down. There is a sense of history and mythology to the Others and their ties to Atlantis. The fact that Johns is able to provide them with this is remarkable, since they will be the first ever team of all-new characters to receive their own book in the New 52. The Others isn't just another Aquaman book. It represents a new chapter for the New 52. For the first time, original ideas are evolving, rather than the recycling of old ones. It's an important step; with a clean slate, the creative teams at DC can forge forward with riskier ventures and brand new characters, and when one of them finally, inevitably moves to the big screen, DC will say that it started here. With Aquaman.
