The Asgardian Wars was an ambitious crossover event in the mid-eighties that threw together the X-Men, Alpha Flight and The New Mutants in a fight against two of Thor's greatest villains, Loki and The Enchantress.

The first two issues in the crossover focused on the X-Men and Alpha Flight, and while entertaining, they were not too impactful from a storytelling perspective. Nonetheless, its always fun to see two well-established teams try to co-exist and there are some neat connections made along the way as a result.

Once this crossover shifted away from Alpha Flight to focus on The New Mutants however, these comics reached a new level. This is perhaps one of the most impactful events in The New Mutants' original run and with good reason. Essentially every major character on the team is given their own arc that shows them grow and evolve in both necessary and intriguing ways.

Mirage, in particular, is a standout in this series as she finds herself with access to a much more important power than her typical illusions. At the same time, Cannonball also gets a rather heartfelt arc that really helps give him more depth beyond his typical role as the gawky co-leader.

On top of that, this series was also heavily revisited down the line after Claremont ceded the reins of The New Mutants franchise to Louise Simonson in late 1987, making it a truly must read for any fans of the X-Men's junior team.
