8 Awesome Alan Moore Moments That We Didn't Get To See On Film

5. The Martian Invasion - The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

As stated in number 8, in the film of LXG we received a very different plot to what Alan Moore wrote in the graphic novels. This is a shame, because a) the plot in the movie is as enjoyable as sharing a sauna with a H.P Lovecraft creature, and b) the second volume of LXG had the Martians from War of the Wolds in it. Now, we've seen War of the Worlds adapted before. There was the infamous Orson Welles radio broadcast, the film from 1953, and the 2005 Tom Cruise movie. None of those adaptations, though, involved the likes of a squid-shaped submarine, John Carter, and a psychotic Mr Hyde desperate to kick the Martian's pesky green asses. Another element that you can add into the mix is the appearance of the animen from The Island of Dr Moreau, who help provide the League with a secret weapon. And how does the graphic novel end? Well, that's the best part. Rather than succumb to the flu as the they do in all the tradition versions of the story, in LXG the Martians are wiped out via a hybrid bacterium made up of anthrax and streptococcus. Throw in Mr Hyde's poignant self-sacrifice and you have an emotional and exciting climax to the story, made all the better for the fact that Tom Cruise and his couch-hopping antics aren't anywhere to be seen.
