2. DC Cancels The Year's Best Reviewed Comic

John Constantine had been in DC limbo for sometime when the publisher elected to bring Hellblazer back as a part of their "Sandman Universe" wave of titles in 2019.

Before then, and long after the original Vertigo Hellblazer was cancelled, John was frequently being deployed as a foil in the mainstream DC Universe opposite Batman, Superman, and the rest of the Justice League. While there wasn't anything wrong with that approach necessarily, fans were about ready for the occult scouser to get his own comic back - one that embodied the spirit of his earlier titles.

And Si Spurrier, Aaron Campbell and Matias Bergara's run did just that. It was phenomenal, restoring Constantine to his old stomping grounds as the magic conman got back up to his old tricks, in stories that offered scathing commentary on the modern day UK.

Hellblazer was clearly one of 2020's strongest titles - and the best reviewed according to review aggregators - but it was unceremoniously binned off towards the end of the year, despite the series clearly having so much more left to give.
