8 Classic Comics Hated By Their Creators

1. Watchmen

Killing Joke
DC Comics/Dave Gibbons

As perhaps the single most iconic and recognisable comic in all history, it's naturally absolutely shocking to learn that Watchmen is the subject of much hatred and anger for its creator, Alan Moore, instead of a source of considerable pride.

Interestingly, unlike almost every other comic that's ended up a subject of ire for its creator, Moore's frustration with Watchmen is something created almost entirely after the comic, generated by what he perceives as the company's refusal to allow him and Dave Gibbons the rights to their franchise.

While Moore thought the series would revert to being his in a year or two - after the company ceased using the characters - DC made sure to buy and use the franchise enough to keep it. Naturally, the company using his characters and concepts in ways he didn't agree with riled the bearded creator, who has since developed a seemingly profound hatred for perhaps his crowning achievement in comics.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
