7. Beppo The Super Monkey - Superboy

Before Crisis on Earths came along, Superman literally made no sense. Well, he made sense during the Golden Age, but then the Silver Age came along and before you know it the 'Last Son of Krypton' title was more than a little outdated, with the likes of Supergirl, Krypto, Streaky the Supercat and... a horse that was in love with Supergirl (oo-err) all joining the Man of Steel in his weekly adventures.

Oh, and there was also a super monkey too. He was called Beppo.

Beppo is by far the most controversial of DC's Legion of Super-Pets, and not just because he was called 'Beppo'. No, this primate proved to be such a nuisance to the Man of Steel that he went into space and surrendered him to its cold, icy clutches.

Granted this was still back when Kal-El was Superboy, but still, leading your admittedly destructive pet monkey into space isn't exactly a chill move. Readers could almost be forgiven for thinking that, when Beppo did eventually return, the Earth was fortunate that he didn't try reenacting Planet of the Apes.
