8 Comics Outside Of Marvel And DC You Should Totally Check Out

4. Rat God

Paper Girls
Dark Horse Comics

Written and Illustrated by comic legend Richard Corben, Rat God was published in 2015 and ran for five issues.

The story focuses on 1920s city man Clark Elwood who sets out on a quest to uncover the background of a mysterious woman. His search leads him to a remote village in the forest outside the fictional town of Arkham. Through his journey, Elwood comes across many horrid sights, from deformed & mutated villagers to sacred rituals to some creepy beasts lurking around the land, all in his search to uncover the mystery behind this woman.

This horror comic features some magnificently disturbing artwork, some of which is bound to stay with you, long after you’ve finished reading. Many of the character and creature designs feel Lovecraftian in their appearance, adding a gothic tone to the comic that really amps up the creep factor for the overall story.
