8 Greatest Punisher Crossover Stories

2. Amazing Spider-Man # 129 (1963)

Punisher Team Ups
Marvel

Punisher’s first appearance in the pages of a comic was in Amazing Spiderman #129, where he was hired by the villainous Jackal, to take out the wall-crawler.

The Punisher appears on the first page, in all his glory, complete with tactical suit, utility belt full of ammo, and huge skull on his chest. The look would prove to be iconic, as it is one of the least changed costumes in Marvel history.

When Jackal makes a comment about how Castle likes death, he corrects him by saying “I kill those who deserve killing, Jackal”. That ideology is a very big part of Punisher as a character, and those are sentiments that allowed him to become the antihero he is. Jackal tells Castle Spider-Man is a killer, and Frank agrees to take him down.

After failing to neutralize Spidey, Punisher corners him in an apartment, where Spider-Man is standing near a dead body. Frank accuses him of murder until Spider-Man points out that the victim had claw markings on him. Realizing the Jackal had been framing Spider-Man for his crimes, Frank makes amends with the web-head and gets out of dodge before the police arrive.
