3. Soliciting Death (That Never Actually Sticks)
Issues where characters die sell well, so companies constantly kill and resurrect heroes. Part of the problem here is everyone knows these issues sell well, so deaths are often advertised months before their release.
For the Death of Wolverine, Marvel released images within their comics of a different Adamantium claw exploding leading up to the event, literally counting down to his demise months in advance. They also called it the Death of Wolverine, putting aside any pretenses of what would happen.
A new version of Wolverine would appear mere less than a year after this death.
When Superman died, it was being covered by every media outlet, resulting in people lining up around the block to buy his fabled death issue. His demise lasted for only one year before he returned to the pages of comics. The Death and Return of Superman is the event that started this trend of death being a revolving door than an ultimate destination.
