This could be building up to a bigger Marvel event yet to come.

X-Men will never feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You will never have Wolverine join the Avengers, or the Guardians of the Galaxy facing down the Phoenix as it threatens a planet.

However, in the comics, you can totally have that, and in all likelihood it's bound to happen sooner, rather than later.

While Phoenix Resurrection will primarily focus on the X-Men and what Jean's return means to their corner of the universe, there's an awful lot going on in the Marvel Universe at the moment, and a lot of it is cosmic.

Why is the Phoenix Force heading back to Earth? For what purpose does it need the adult Jean Grey back? Why now, when there are forces searching for the Infinity Stones and Fallen Celestials wanting to call the Final Host to Earth?

The timing of it all seems a little too conspicuous to be mere coincidence, so could this series set up larger connections between Jean, the Phoenix and the wider Marvel Universe in months to come?
